Description

  • Design and evolve scalable, reliable backend systems, APIs, data models, and event-driven workflows.
  • Lead architecture for complex, cross-team backend initiatives and make service, database, caching, and messaging decisions.
  • Build systems supporting high-throughput requests, large datasets, asynchronous processing, and distributed workflows.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across applications, databases, queues, and infrastructure.
  • Improve scalability, latency, throughput, availability, fault tolerance, observability, and resource utilization.
  • Lead database optimization, indexing, partitioning, sharding, caching, data-retention, and migration initiatives.
  • Investigate production incidents, implement corrective actions, and improve failure recovery.
  • Establish engineering standards for reliability, testing, security, maintainability, and system design.
  • Review architecture and critical code changes, address technical debt, and drive modernization.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership, mentor senior engineers, and contribute hands-on code.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant backend systems experience at scale.
  • Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Java, or a similar backend language.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, service communication, concurrency, queues, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, large datasets, high request volumes, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and data consistency.
  • Experience designing reliable systems with retries, idempotency, timeouts, rate limiting, and failure recovery.
  • Strong system design and architectural decision-making skills, including scalability, availability, consistency, and performance trade-offs.
  • Experience diagnosing complex production issues using metrics, logs, and distributed tracing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technically complex initiatives across multiple engineers or teams.
  • Preferred experience with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Firestore, Kafka, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, SQS, or Redis.
  • Preferred experience with Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, observability platforms, multi-tenant SaaS, high-volume data pipelines, search systems, CRM/workflow products, or large-scale data migrations.
