Description

  • Direct multiple AI coding agents in parallel to design, build, test, and ship Android features in Kotlin against the Android SDK.
  • Own a slice of the Android app end to end, including discovery, scoping, architecture, implementation, QA, release, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Run an engineer-as-a-team workflow across spec drafting, code generation, test generation, code review, refactoring, documentation, and bug triage.
  • Develop and defend Android architecture decisions within Grove’s Kotlin stack, including Clean Architecture, multi-module Gradle, MVVM, DataBinding, Koin, Coroutines/Flow, and Moshi.
  • Design prompts, evaluations, and harnesses that make AI-assisted mobile development repeatable and measurable.
  • Stand up automation for releases, checks, distribution, device testing, rollback, and AI-powered review gates.
  • Explore architecture options and plan migration paths, including the introduction of Jetpack Compose into a DataBinding/XML codebase.
  • Collaborate with engineers, PMs, designers, and platform partners to review designs and gather business context before shipping.
  • Monitor production health through tools like Sentry, Datadog, Cloudflare, and Firebase, triage incidents, and reprioritize the backlog autonomously.
  • Mentor contractor teammates on AI-native workflows and share learnings with the broader mobile team.
  • Investigate crashes and hotfix issues using AI-assisted triage and root-cause analysis.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of professional Android development experience with a portfolio of shipped consumer apps at scale.
  • Demonstrable fluency with AI coding tools and agentic workflows such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and Codex.
  • Strong Kotlin and Android architecture experience, including Clean Architecture, MVVM, multi-module Gradle, Koin, Coroutines/Flow, and Moshi.
  • Comfort working in a DataBinding/XML codebase and making phased decisions about when to introduce Jetpack Compose or MVI.
  • Experience integrating with REST and JSON:API-style backends and Shopify Buy/Checkout SDKs at consumer scale.
  • Ability to own end-to-end outcomes while knowing when to pull in others for architecture or business-context reviews.
  • Autonomous use of monitoring and support tools such as Sentry, Datadog, Firebase, and Cloudflare to prioritize and respond to issues.
  • Comfort writing prompts, evals, and guardrails for AI-assisted development.
  • Strong written communication skills for async standups, design reviews, and Slack-based debugging.
  • Collaborative, low-ego working style with openness to critique.
  • Preferred: experience designing custom agents, MCP tools, or AI-assisted code review pipelines.
  • Preferred: experience leading an XML/DataBinding to Jetpack Compose migration on a production app.
  • Preferred: strong command of Coroutines, Flow, and structured concurrency patterns.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Grove-adjacent tools and services such as Shopify SDK, Stripe, Heap, Braze, AppsFlyer, Contentful, Constructor.io, Bazaar Voice, and WorkManager.
  • Preferred: experience with CI/CD tooling such as Fastlane, CircleCI, AppCenter, Play Console automation, Gradle build optimization, and version catalogs.
  • Preferred: subscription or e-commerce mobile experience, including selling plans, recurring orders, cart-sidecar contracts, and out-of-stock handling at scale.
  • Preferred: exposure to feature flags, experimentation platforms, and analytics instrumentation.
  • Preferred: experience helping a team adopt AI-native development practices.
