Description

  • Diagnose business problems by mapping workflows, identifying constraints, and determining whether AI is the right solution before building.
  • Own AI initiatives end-to-end from stakeholder discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration.
  • Design, develop, and ship AI-powered solutions quickly with a focus on practical outcomes and measurable business value.
  • Improve organizational flow by reducing bottlenecks, shortening lead times, and increasing throughput.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and workflows using APIs, orchestration tools, and modern AI platforms.
  • Act as Customer Zero by using GitLab's AI offerings internally and feeding real-world feedback back to R&D.
  • Partner with stakeholders across functions to clarify constraints, align on outcomes, and bridge technical and non-technical perspectives.
  • Define and track success using business metrics, flow metrics, adoption data, and ROI.
  • Evaluate tools, document patterns, and build reusable foundations that help the team scale impact.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns.
  • Deep practical experience with prompt engineering, including system prompts, context management, multi-turn interactions, and output evaluation.
  • Experience making model selection and architecture trade-offs, such as RAG versus larger context windows and smaller fine-tuned models versus general-purpose models.
  • Practical fluency with agentic architecture patterns, including tool use, multi-agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop designs, guardrails, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, or open-source alternatives.
  • Ability to design guardrails for AI safety and risk, including input validation, output filtering, access controls, prompt-injection defenses, and data leakage prevention.
  • Familiarity with enterprise business systems such as Salesforce, Marketo, Zendesk, Workato, Relevance AI, and Glean.
  • Ability to have meaningful conversations across diverse business domains and quickly understand stakeholder needs.
  • Track record of owning complex initiatives from discovery through delivery while operating with ambiguity and driving measurable outcomes independently.
  • Ability to scope MVPs, prioritize ruthlessly, and deliver iteratively with attention to adoption, user experience, and business outcomes.
  • Preferred: experience with the GitLab platform and CI/CD workflows.
  • Preferred: background in consulting, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical roles.
  • Preferred: familiarity with value stream mapping, flow metrics, or Theory of Constraints thinking.
  • Preferred: experience with low-code/no-code orchestration tools such as n8n, Make, or Workato alongside custom development.
  • Preferred: previous startup or high-growth company experience.
  • Preferred: experience mentoring or leading technical projects with junior engineers.
