Description

  • Lead a team of 5 to 8 engineers, owning delivery, culture, and growth.
  • Drive technical direction for a regulated trading platform while remaining hands-on in execution.
  • Partner with Product, Compliance, legal, and engineering leaders to deliver aligned solutions.
  • Establish team operating practices that support 24/7 trading operations, including planning, on-call, incident response, code review, and change management.
  • Use data and metrics to track delivery velocity, reliability SLOs, compliance posture, uptime, latency, and reporting accuracy.
  • Mentor engineers, support career development, and help build future engineering leaders.
  • Oversee scalable and reliable systems, including modernization of the Java codebase and new development in Go, Java, and Kotlin.
  • Champion responsible AI-assisted development across the team, including adoption of tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and GitHub Copilot.
  • Communicate technical and regulatory concepts clearly to stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Stay current on regulated trading infrastructure and prediction market trends, bringing ideas that improve team performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally with a backend focus in Java, Go, or similar languages.
  • Experience designing and operating production systems with high-availability, low-latency, mission-critical requirements.
  • Background in regulated financial infrastructure is strongly preferred, including brokerage systems, futures or derivatives exchanges, or similar environments.
  • Solid understanding of compliance obligations in regulated markets, including data sensitivity controls and insider trading restrictions.
  • Deep understanding of Agile and Scrum, with the ability to adapt in a fast-moving 0-to-1 environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, scalable solutions with a focus on reliability and correctness.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading distributed or remote teams across multiple time zones.
  • Demonstrated experience using or evangelizing AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or GitHub Copilot.
  • Degree in Computer Science or similar, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: previous experience at a US-regulated financial exchange or licensed trading platform.
  • Preferred: familiarity with event-driven architectures in a financial context, such as Kafka or Kinesis.
  • Preferred: experience with prediction markets or futures/options trading platforms.
  • Preferred: experience in a 0-to-1 or high-growth startup environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required for offsites, cross-team collaboration, or regulatory engagements.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Open to fully remote candidates based in the United Kingdom.
