Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch's core storage and query engine.
  • Drive improvements in storage efficiency, indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives to build observability solutions.
  • Collaborate with a globally distributed engineering team across logs and metrics capabilities.
  • Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with the broader community.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for Elasticsearch engineering.
  • Introduce best practices that improve code quality and system clarity.
  • Write modern Java code for Elasticsearch's storage engine.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems.
  • Strong focus on storage, indexing, query execution, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions, teams, and changing project priorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct communication.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Prompt-engineering mindset with sound judgment to validate AI outputs and understand limitations.
  • Experience implementing techniques to index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
  • Strong core Java skills and deep understanding of Java concurrency primitives.
  • Ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bonus points: experience with Elasticsearch, open source workflows, continuous integration, data storage technology, cross-functional initiatives, or database/search engine/OS/cloud service development.

  • Typical starting salary range of €61,100 to €96,600 EUR.
