Description

  • Design and implement full-stack, user-facing security solutions for hundreds of millions of Discord users.
  • Lead full-stack work to improve session security and authentication.
  • Operate, maintain, and own the correctness and security of security-critical authentication services.
  • Partner with Product teams to drive adoption of stronger authentication and ship account security tools.
  • Identify and design solutions for emerging account security threats.
  • Research and implement new security capabilities for the Discord platform.
  • Build self-service, automated, and high-performance security controls and tools to detect and mitigate account security flaws.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience securing production applications.
  • 3+ years of experience programming in at least one general-purpose language such as Python, Go, Java, or Rust.
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping production software, including security features, controls, frameworks, or guardrails.
  • Hands-on experience with authentication and account security, including WebAuthn, passkeys, FIDO2, MFA, and session management.
  • Ability to reason about the security of complex systems and provide clear secure design guidance.
  • Experience leading security projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience building or hardening client applications, such as desktop or native mobile apps.
  • Experience operating in cloud-based environments; Google Cloud is used, but other platforms are acceptable.
  • Bonus: experience programming in a systems language such as C or C++.
  • Bonus: experience developing, operating, and debugging production systems.
  • Bonus: familiarity with common application vulnerabilities on the platforms Discord ships on.
