Description

  • Manage, hire, develop, and retain a team of AI/ML, backend, and platform engineers.
  • Coach engineers on technical designs, architecture and code reviews, and complex trade-offs.
  • Set and maintain engineering standards for code quality, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Scope, cost, sequence, and deliver team initiatives while maintaining accountability for delivery commitments.
  • Guide architecture for ML model training, evaluation, monitoring, retraining, and LLM workflows including agents, RAG, and vector database integrations.
  • Oversee low-latency, reliable inference services for live payment-routing decisions.
  • Ensure AWS infrastructure, observability, CI/CD, and on-call practices meet operational standards.
  • Apply PCI-DSS and data-handling requirements to systems that process payment data.
  • Translate product strategy into a technical roadmap with clear timelines and trade-offs.
  • Partner with product, operations, modeling leadership, and company leadership to align priorities and communicate progress and blockers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2–3+ years managing engineers.
  • Experience building and shipping scalable backend and/or ML systems.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering teams while balancing people development and delivery.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ML systems, including model training, serving, evaluation, monitoring, and retraining.
  • Practical production experience with LLM-based systems such as agents, RAG, or AI workflow orchestration.
  • Ability to guide technical decisions involving backend services, distributed systems, and AI/LLM workflows.
  • Clear, proactive communication with engineering teams and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to adapt plans and communicate changes effectively in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Experience in payments, fintech, or another regulated, latency-sensitive industry (preferred).
  • Knowledge of PCI-DSS, payment data handling, tokenization, PSP integrations, or payment-routing optimization (preferred).
