Description

  • Build a funding pipeline for DataKind’s US Communities work and support broader fundraising efforts over time.
  • Research and recommend philanthropic funding opportunities, including foundations, corporate giving programs, and other grant-making organizations.
  • Translate complex programmatic and technical information about public benefit AI and civic technology into clear, funder-specific narratives.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather program, budget, and impact information for submissions.
  • Manage proposal timelines and ensure submissions are accurate and on time.
  • Support the development and submission of grant proposals to philanthropic funders.
  • Create fundraising and marketing collateral such as one-pagers, pitch decks, and blog content, if applicable.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in the nonprofit, social impact, or technology sectors.
  • Demonstrated success securing significant grants from philanthropic sources, including multi-year commitments and awards of $500,000 or greater.
  • Proven track record of securing grants from philanthropic sources, including competitive RFPs.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Strong technical writing ability with the capacity to translate complex AI, data science, or civic tech concepts into accessible, persuasive narratives.
  • Availability to work approximately 40 hours per week on average for a remote contract role.
  • Ability to coordinate with a team that primarily works EST hours.
  • Preferred availability for virtual collaboration during 11am–1pm ET / 8am–10am PT.
  • Experience developing fundraising and marketing collateral such as one-pagers, pitch decks, and blog content is a plus.
  • Willingness to provide a resume, a 4–5 page funded grant proposal writing sample, and a brief note on availability.

Benefits

  • Remote contract role.
  • Approximately 40 hours per week on average, with surge capacity around reporting deadlines.
  • Initial contract term from July 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026, with possibility for extension.
  • Flexible schedule that can be set independently.
  • Compensation of $60–$72 per hour, DOE.
