Description

  • Own the architecture and evolution of real-time and offline tax systems for crypto transactions, ensuring correctness, low latency, and 24x7 availability.
  • Define multi-quarter technical strategies for the Tax Platform to reduce complexity, improve reliability, and support new assets and products.
  • Architect and build distributed systems for tax calculation engines, cost basis tracking, and tax reporting APIs at scale.
  • Lead technical design reviews and code reviews, and set standards for quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team.
  • Partner with product, data, compliance, and frontend teams to deliver tax features that meet regulatory requirements and customer needs.
  • Drive operational excellence by owning reliability, incident response, and performance optimization for critical tax infrastructure.
  • Support accurate tax reporting and real-time gain/loss calculations across Coinbase products and legal entities globally.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience solving ambiguous, high-impact problems.
  • Proven experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production distributed systems with strict correctness and availability requirements.
  • Strong backend development experience with languages such as Go, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and REST/GraphQL API design.
  • Deep experience with data-intensive systems and tools such as Kafka and ClickHouse, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on large, long-term projects, including mentoring engineers and aligning cross-functional teams.
  • Strong judgment in prioritization and the ability to break down ambiguous problems into actionable technical plans.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots such as LibreChat, Gemini, and Glean in daily workflows.
  • Experience with tax systems, cost basis engines, 1099 reporting, or financial compliance infrastructure (preferred).
  • Familiarity with equities, options, or margin trading, or strong interest in learning brokerage/trading domains (preferred).
  • Background at a tech-focused company such as a fintech, crypto, or high-growth startup (preferred).

  • Target annual base salary of $217,900 CAD.
  • Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility.
