Description

  • Provide vision, mentorship, and strategic leadership for an engineering team building and maintaining secure open source libraries at scale.
  • Guide technical direction and product strategy across language ecosystems, dependency management, security hardening, tooling, automation, and services.
  • Set and oversee policies, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives while balancing security, performance, stability, and customer value.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and workstreams, remove blockers, and support efficient team operations.
  • Improve build and testing infrastructure for reproducible, auditable, and trusted library releases.
  • Oversee vulnerability detection, patching, SBOM generation, and provenance generation across library ecosystems.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration within the Libraries product and partner with engineering and product teams on interoperability and security posture.
  • Stay current on ecosystem developments to keep Guarded Libraries modern, high-quality, and sustainable.
  • Represent Guarded Libraries externally by interfacing with partners, community maintainers, and adoption efforts.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing and scaling technical teams.
  • Experience building or maintaining Linux operating systems, language ecosystems, open source libraries, or security-focused ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of software security, including securing build systems and pipelines, software artifacts, and vulnerability management.
  • Strong understanding of language ecosystems such as Python, Go, Java, and JavaScript, especially build systems, dependency management, release management, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience leading teams working with cloud-native technologies and infrastructure.
  • Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with cloud services such as GCP or AWS.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code practices such as Terraform.
  • Experience with AI-driven infrastructure.
  • Growth-minded approach focused on helping engineers and organizations adapt, anticipate future challenges, and align technical work with business objectives.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with open source language and libraries ecosystems, build tools and infrastructure, and automation in cloud-native environments.

  • Base salary range of $205,000 to $231,000 USD.
