Description

  • Own the team's technical outcomes, including code quality, reliability, maintainability, security, and execution.
  • Lead technical direction and design for small-to-moderately scoped features within the team’s domain.
  • Translate product and business problems into pragmatic technical solutions and drive them through implementation.
  • Mentor engineers across experience levels and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Use AI tools and automation to improve development workflows, reduce repetitive work, and increase team leverage.
  • Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, performance concerns, and reliability issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems using debugging, observability, and system-level analysis.
  • Build quality into the development process through automated testing, code review, observability, and continuous feedback.
  • Partner with Product, QA, Engineering, Staff Engineers, and architects to make technical decisions and deliver features.

Requirements

  • Strong, recent experience building and shipping production software as a hands-on engineer.
  • Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript across the stack, including Node.js, Express, and React.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL, relational data modeling, REST API design, asynchronous programming, automated testing, and production debugging/observability.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems incrementally while keeping a live product running.
  • Comfort building and operating integrations and data synchronization between systems, with attention to correctness, idempotency, and conflict handling.
  • Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery speed.
  • Experience serving as the senior technical engineer or technical lead on a team without formal management authority.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.
  • Experience using AI meaningfully in day-to-day engineering work, including coding, debugging, research, and problem-solving.
  • Nice to have: experience with Java, AngularJS, Sequelize or another ORM, AWS, CRM platforms, feature flagging tools, Playwright, Jest, multi-tenant SaaS, or nonprofit/volunteer management systems.
