Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions through release, in collaboration with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key product features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate successful implementations into shared team solutions.
  • Improve shared components through testing, documentation, and simplification.
  • Reduce manual release work and expand automated verification and testing.
  • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
  • Plan team work and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and ensure they receive meaningful learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including what should not be covered by automated tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that remain adopted after implementation.
  • Experience influencing teams to change how they work and managing the resulting friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system risk and behavior.
  • Track record of building reusable systems adopted by the broader team.
  • Ability to explain how a team uses AI agents in its development workflow.
  • Strong product design intuition, user empathy, communication skills, and initiative to improve Android UI/UX and the codebase.
  • Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is preferred.
  • Willingness to complete several technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment.
