Description

  • Contribute as a day-one member of cross-functional teams with business leaders, senior engineers, and ML engineers.
  • Develop and modernize legacy business communications, data collection, and reporting systems.
  • Support existing systems during the transition period to maintain performance and stability.
  • Build and integrate agentic AI workflows and LLM-enabled tooling into production systems.
  • Implement cloud telephony automation using Amazon Connect and related contact flows.
  • Design and maintain REST APIs and backend services for enterprise applications.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests using TDD practices.
  • Collaborate in pair programming, code reviews, and collective code ownership practices.
  • Participate in continuous integration and trunk-based development workflows.
  • Communicate progress, blockers, and technical decisions across cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 1-3+ years of professional Java development experience in production systems.
  • Strong experience with Java 17/21 LTS features such as records, sealed classes, and pattern matching.
  • Expert-level experience with Spring Boot 3.x, including auto-configuration, actuators, profiles, and dependency injection.
  • Advanced experience with Spring Security and OAuth2/OIDC.
  • Expert-level unit and integration testing experience with JUnit 5 and Mockito.
  • Required experience with AWS services, especially Lambda and DynamoDB.
  • Advanced experience with Amazon Connect and contact flows, including Lambda handlers and Lex bots.
  • Preferred experience with Kafka or Amazon MSK in event-driven microservices architectures.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD practices such as trunk-based development and GitHub Actions or similar tools.
  • Advanced experience with agentic AI tooling, LLM APIs, tool-use loops, and LangChain4j, or willingness to learn.
  • 2+ years of Agile experience, with XP experience strongly preferred.
  • 1+ year of AWS cloud-native development experience, such as Lambda or ECS.
  • Ability to work in the United States; H-1B sponsorship, transfers, and new sponsorship are not available.
  • US-based remote work required, with preference for candidates in the Chicago area.
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry is preferred.
  • AWS Certified Developer Associate, Spring Professional Certification, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, or AWS Machine Learning Specialty are preferred or advantageous.
