Description

  • Own the hardware architecture, component selection, physical design, and detailed mechanical, electrical, optical, and test engineering for the product line.
  • Lead the transition of hardware from prototype and EDU stages into EMD and high-rate production.
  • Prepare hardware deliverables, technical artifacts, and clear-to-build criteria for SRR, PDR, CDR, and MRR milestones.
  • Own the hardware side of NPI, including coordination, inventory, assembly, and readiness of EDU and EMD-1 builds for field and environmental testing.
  • Architect, build, and ruggedize manufacturing and optical test equipment for efficient, repeatable, and automated production testing.
  • Define, implement, and track hardware verification and validation metrics to ensure reliability in extreme environments.
  • Partner with the Chief Engineer and functional engineering leads to ensure the product line has sufficient hardware engineering staffing.
  • Own the hardware continuous improvement roadmap, configuration control/change review processes, and rapid resolution of hardware field issues.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design, analysis, integration, and test efforts across EO/IR prototypes and products.
  • Shape internal and external investment priorities to expand the scope and impact of the product family.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, optical engineering, systems engineering, physics, or a hard science.
  • 8+ years of experience developing and deploying complex electromechanical, electro-optical, or active sensing systems.
  • Deep engineering breadth across mechanical, electrical, optical, and test disciplines.
  • Experience with system design, architecture definition, and performance modeling.
  • Proven experience managing New Product Introduction (NPI), initial builds, and hardware scaling or sustainment at scale.
  • Strong track record of leading high-performance, cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to test sites and manufacturing facilities as needed.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.
  • Direct experience with active optical/imaging systems, Ladar/Lidar, or high-precision pointing architectures is preferred.
  • Experience transitioning hardware from low-TRL prototyping to qualified EMD and production programs is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental testing standards such as thermal, shock, and vibration is preferred.
  • Familiarity with supply chain coordination, inventory management, and clear-to-build metrics is preferred.
