Description

  • Set and own the long-term fundraising strategy and full accountability for fundraising performance, growth, and sustainability for Working Families Party and Working Families Power.
  • Serve as a senior thought partner in organizational strategy and annual planning, including participation in the Budget Process and Allocations Committee and final approval of revenue projections.
  • Design, test, and scale new fundraising strategies and pilots to grow revenue, with particular focus on mid-level donor growth, donor leadership models, and new giving approaches.
  • Develop and institutionalize donor engagement standards, touchpoint cadences, and shared fundraising operating rhythms across national, state, digital, and federal teams.
  • Personally cultivate, steward, and close a portfolio of major individual and institutional supporters, including securing new, expanded, and multi-year investments and top-tier political funders.
  • Lead fundraising strategy in high-stakes moments (e.g., election cycles, expansion opportunities) and direct the fundraising engagement of senior leadership to maximize high-impact donor opportunities.
  • Own and operationalize the funder-facing narrative in partnership with the Chief Brand Officer, ensuring consistent messaging and cases for support across all fundraising touchpoints.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donor advisors, funding networks, and political giving gatherings and advise donors on broader political giving strategies as appropriate.
  • Provide senior staff leadership to set a culture of ambition and accountability, resolve cross-department fundraising tensions, and coordinate shared priorities across development, digital, and state/regional fundraising teams.
  • Supervise and partner with the Managing Director of Development to translate strategy into clear priorities, goals, and execution while maintaining separation between external leadership and internal management.

Requirements

  • Track record of winning and managing major investments totaling $20 million or more annually (preferred/ideal).
  • Demonstrated success building trust with major individual donors, donor advisors, and funding networks and converting alignment into sustained long-term investment.
  • Experience operating at the executive level and partnering closely with an Executive Director and senior leadership; ability to lead through influence and shape organizational culture.
  • Strong narrative and communication skills with ability to translate political strategy into compelling fundraising opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, test, and refine fundraising strategies using data and experimentation to drive growth beyond existing approaches.
  • Experience building fundraising operations in resource-constrained environments, including donor engagement cadence systems, reporting infrastructure, standardized toolkits, and planning frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive alignment and collaboration across functions (digital, communications, brand, state/regional teams) without direct authority.
  • Experience designing and building donor pipeline and progression systems, including grassroots and mid-tier donor cultivation programs in addition to major gift portfolios.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly, work flexibly during fast-moving political moments, and be a visible external representative for the organization; must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. (organization cannot sponsor visas).

  • Remote work from anywhere in the United States with remote work support; frequent travel for donor meetings and events is required.
  • Robust benefits package including paid time off, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
  • Retirement plan options and professional development funding.
