Description

  • Build and ship full-stack features across the Ruby on Rails service layer and React frontend.
  • Pick up tickets from Linear, scope work independently, and deliver production-quality code with strong test coverage.
  • Participate in sprint rituals, demos, and client touchpoints while clearly explaining technical decisions, trade-offs, and status.
  • Collaborate closely with the existing engineering team and the client’s internal engineers and product manager.
  • Help the team reach beta and release milestones by surfacing risks early and proposing solutions.
  • Contribute to architecture and integration discussions, including real-time infrastructure, feed and messaging systems, performance, and scaling.
  • Write code reviews that improve code quality without slowing delivery.
  • Work effectively inside the client’s existing processes and rituals with minimal PM support.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of full-stack engineering experience with substantial production work in Ruby on Rails and React.
  • Experience working in a Rails monolith of meaningful size and navigating unfamiliar codebases using existing conventions.
  • Strong Postgres experience, including efficient queries, indexing, and migrations on a live database.
  • Familiarity with Redis in a caching or background-job context.
  • Experience building React applications in production, including component patterns, state management, and Rails backend integration.
  • Experience with real-time features, multi-tenancy, or scale-related concerns is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ActionCable, AnyCable, Stream.io, Pusher, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, including presenting work directly to clients.
  • Self-directed working style with the ability to clarify requirements, pick up tickets, and ship independently.
  • Available to work in an EST or compatible timezone with strong overlap to an EST/CET working day.
  • Comfortable working as a contractor.
  • Experience with creator-economy, publishing, or community products is a plus.
  • Background as an embedded contractor within a client engineering team is a plus.
  • Familiarity with deploying Rails applications at scale using Heroku, AWS, or similar is a plus.
