Description

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, and support recruitment and build-out of a second team in Poland.
  • Own the Hippo Plus engineering space end to end, from technical direction through delivery.
  • Introduce structure, processes, and strong engineering practices across the team.
  • Partner with Product Managers to manage the roadmap, clarify requirements, and balance technical excellence with user benefit.
  • Work with business stakeholders to translate business needs into engineering priorities.
  • Balance new feature development with operational needs for a fast-scaling product that is still being validated.
  • Provide technical leadership with a data-driven mindset and ensure the team delivers high-quality software and business value.
  • Coordinate work across teams in the US, Brazil, and Poland.
  • Develop individuals and influence cross-functional teams and senior management.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering background with enough technical depth to mentor engineers and challenge decisions when needed.
  • Previous experience leading a technical team, ideally during a product scaling stage.
  • Experience working with and leading distributed, remote teams across time zones.
  • High level of technical proficiency with JavaScript/Node.js and React.
  • Great command of English, both written and spoken, and Polish at least at a communicative level.
  • Availability in the afternoons, with some evening meetings likely required for multinational collaboration.
  • Product-minded approach with appreciation for Product as a co-owner of software products.
  • Relentless focus on end users and customer-centric solutions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity in a new venture where priorities can shift.
  • Experience in a startup-like environment (nice to have).
  • Experience building a team from scratch (nice to have).
  • Experience working in a SOC2-compliant environment (nice to have).
