Description

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the CPO and CTO, including preparation for board and executive interactions.
  • Lead the R&D operating cadence, including meetings, reviews, quarterly planning, and OKR tracking and reporting.
  • Triag e escalations and meeting requests to determine what needs direct leadership attention versus async resolution.
  • Build and maintain the R&D operational dashboard and translate delivery, capacity, and headcount data into decision-ready narratives.
  • Lead high-priority, ambiguous cross-functional initiatives such as org design and AI operating model buildouts.
  • Serve as the primary partner to FP&A and lead budget governance across Engineering, Product, and Design.
  • Surface trade-offs by presenting options, costs, and recommendations to support prioritization decisions.
  • Partner with People and Finance on hiring plans, capacity modeling, and senior onboarding for R&D.
  • Draft and own key R&D communications, including executive memos and board materials.
  • Establish and continuously improve the R&D operating system, decision-rights framework, and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in strategy, operations, management consulting, product management, or a prior Chief of Staff role, ideally in a high-growth or public B2B SaaS company.
  • 5+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Deep fluency in how R&D organizations operate, including the product development lifecycle, org structures, capacity planning, and the relationship between roadmap, resourcing, and business outcomes.
  • Ability to read and interpret an architecture diagram, a capacity model, and a P&L with confidence.
  • Proven track record of influencing VP-, SVP-, and C-level leaders without owning the org chart.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft board materials and present complex topics clearly.
  • Strong operational and analytical rigor with a focus on repeatable processes, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Experience supporting a combined Product and Engineering organization, or reporting into a CPO, CTO, or CPTO, preferred.
  • Background in high-growth SaaS or technology companies with exposure to multiple planning cycles and organizational change, preferred.
  • Familiarity with modern R&D operations tooling, including OKR and planning systems, roadmapping tools, and delivery/velocity analytics, preferred.

  • Annual base salary range of $216,000 to $300,000, with zone-based ranges up to $356,000 in New York, California, and Washington.
