Description

  • Own major in-app features from design through delivery in collaboration with the design team.
  • Shape the direction of Speechify’s Android team and contribute to technical leadership.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key product features.
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering.
  • Review pull requests and support teammates with technical work.
  • Handle critical issues and respond to unexpected technical challenges.
  • Own feature releases and deliver nightly builds for the QA team.
  • Contribute to improving the app, codebase, and user experience beyond the written spec.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Android components.
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
  • Product design intuition and strong user empathy.
  • Ability to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
  • Understanding of testing practices and how to write tests effectively.
  • Strong self-drive to improve the app and codebase independently.
  • Rock-solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • User-oriented problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to work well with continuous feedback from leaders.
  • Preferred experience building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects.
  • Preferred experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.
