Description

  • Own major app features from design collaboration through delivery of high-quality releases.
  • Shape the direction and future of Speechify’s Android engineering team.
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key app features.
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
  • Review pull requests and support teammates with technical guidance.
  • Handle critical issues and respond to unexpected technical challenges.
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds for the QA team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Android components.
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
  • Product design intuition and strong user empathy.
  • Ability to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
  • Understanding of testing practices and how to write tests.
  • Strong self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the written spec.
  • Hands-on experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • User-oriented problem-solving approach.
  • Open to continuous feedback from leadership.
  • Preferred: experience building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects.
  • Preferred: experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas & Paint, and Jetpack Compose is part of the team’s technology stack.
