Description

  • Lead the design and evolution of large-scale, distributed systems and platform architectures across organizational boundaries.
  • Define and guide long-term technical strategy and align engineering direction with business and product goals.
  • Lead the strategic adoption of AI-assisted development practices and AI-enabled system capabilities.
  • Identify high-impact technical opportunities and prioritize problems that maximize engineering and business outcomes.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and business leaders to shape technical priorities and roadmap decisions.
  • Lead cross-team initiatives spanning multiple systems or domains and ensure sustainable delivery.
  • Navigate ambiguous problem spaces, define technical approaches, and drive clarity, alignment, and execution.
  • Influence architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices across teams.
  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate systemic technical risks.
  • Improve system health through observability, performance optimization, reliability, and operational maturity.
  • Define and drive strategies to reduce technical debt and modernize existing systems.
  • Develop and adopt platform capabilities, shared services, and tooling to improve developer productivity.
  • Mentor senior and staff engineers and help teams operate more effectively and independently.
  • Drive continuous improvement in architecture, processes, and engineering practices.
  • Contribute to technical due diligence and evaluation of strategic initiatives and partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of driving technical strategy across multiple teams or domains.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and industry-standard design patterns and practices.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining third-party integration platforms that synchronize data across external systems such as accounting platforms, payment gateways, and CRM systems.
  • Understanding of payment processing workflows, including payment gateway integration and payment method lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with accounting system concepts such as invoice-to-cash workflow, chart of accounts, terms, tax calculations, and compliance.
  • Deep experience designing, building, and evolving large-scale distributed systems and platform architectures.
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating production systems on public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong understanding of system design trade-offs across scalability, reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguous environments and drive execution across teams without direct authority.
  • Experience influencing and aligning senior engineers, staff engineers, and leadership across teams and domains.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating systemic technical risks.
  • Deep experience with observability practices, including structured logging, metrics collection, distributed tracing, and alerting.
  • A forward-looking approach to AI-assisted development and the ability to connect AI capabilities to product quality, delivery speed, and business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve engineering productivity through platform, tooling, or process improvements at organizational scale.
  • Experience contributing to technical due diligence, strategic initiatives, architectural investments, and external partnerships.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to executive and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with full stack and API development across frontend and backend layers.
  • Proficiency in one or more of Rust, C#, and JavaScript.
  • Proficiency with modern authentication and authorization mechanisms such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML.
  • Experience maintaining and operating large-scale production systems and improving incident response and post-mortem processes.
  • Extensive experience with distributed and microservices-based architectures.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure patterns, including serverless architectures, managed Kubernetes services, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Bicep.
  • Experience leading modern security practices, including secure coding, threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, and security architecture.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of architectural styles and design patterns.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems and modern software delivery practices, including automated testing and progressive deployments.
  • Deep familiarity with relational and non-relational data stores.
  • Deep experience with observability, monitoring, and reliability engineering practices.
