Description

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain production database environments across PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora, MongoDB, and MariaDB.
  • Design and operate highly available, fault-tolerant database architectures on AWS, including Multi-AZ deployments, read replicas, and Aurora clusters.
  • Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and version migrations.
  • Plan and execute database migrations from on-premises to cloud or across engines with minimal downtime.
  • Implement and validate backup, restore, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Tune database performance through query optimization, indexing, execution plan analysis, vacuum and bloat management, and connection pooling.
  • Plan capacity and optimize costs for AWS RDS and Aurora workloads.
  • Configure replication and failover for relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Define and enforce database security controls, including access management, encryption, KMS, secrets management, and audit logging.
  • Build monitoring, alerting, and observability for database health and performance.
  • Troubleshoot production incidents and drive root cause analysis and permanent fixes.
  • Automate DBA tasks using scripts and Infrastructure as Code, and maintain documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with developers, engineering, data, and DevOps teams on schema design, data modeling, query reviews, and database best practices.
  • Support compliance requirements such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR for database systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of database internals, including storage engines, transactions, isolation levels, locking, MVCC, and query planners.
  • Proven experience supporting mission-critical OLTP workloads with high availability requirements.
  • Solid scripting skills in Bash and/or Python for automation.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL administration, including installation, configuration, tuning, and upgrades.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL streaming replication, logical replication, pgBouncer, and partitioning.
  • Strong query tuning skills using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, B-tree, GIN, and BRIN indexes, plus vacuum and bloat management.
  • Hands-on experience with Aurora PostgreSQL clusters, reader/writer endpoints, and global databases.
  • Strong hands-on experience operating production workloads on AWS RDS and Aurora for MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency with parameter groups, option groups, snapshots, automated backups, and PITR.
  • Experience configuring Multi-AZ, read replicas, cross-region replication, and disaster recovery setups.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services related to databases, including IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, VPC, Security Groups, CloudWatch, and Performance Insights.
  • Hands-on experience administering MongoDB, self-managed or Atlas.
  • Experience with MongoDB replica sets, sharding, indexing strategies, and aggregation pipeline tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with MariaDB and/or MySQL administration in production.
  • Experience with replication topologies such as primary-replica and Galera clusters, InnoDB tuning, and binlog management.
  • Familiarity with tools such as mysqldump, Percona Toolkit, and ProxySQL.
  • Strong experience with backup and restore strategies and validated disaster recovery procedures.
  • Experience setting up monitoring, alerting, and dashboards for database health and performance.
  • Experience leading incident response and root cause analysis for database-related outages.
  • Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform and/or CloudFormation is preferred.
  • Experience with CI/CD for database changes using Liquibase, Flyway, or similar tooling is preferred.
  • Exposure to NoSQL or data stores beyond MongoDB, such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch, is preferred.
  • Experience with database proxy tooling such as RDS Proxy, ProxySQL, or pgBouncer is preferred.
  • Familiarity with containerized workloads such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS is preferred.
  • Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR audits from a database perspective is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of data engineering or analytics workloads, including CDC via Debezium or DMS, is preferred.
  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or Database Specialty are a plus.
