Description

  • Serve as the technical lead and anchor for the data engineering team, setting standards for code quality, system design, and engineering judgment.
  • Own complex, ambiguous data engineering problems end to end, from architecture through deployment and ongoing reliability.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and direct feedback.
  • Partner with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Drive architectural decisions across infrastructure, application, and data tiers and be accountable for the outcomes.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to improve system performance, reliability, and engineering efficiency.
  • Participate in all stages of the software development life cycle, including design, development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Implement testing and performance tuning to improve system stability and uptime.
  • Define technical approaches for large-scope projects, estimate effort, and unblock teammates.
  • Continuously monitor performance metrics and drive improvements and refactors across owned systems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines.
  • Deep proficiency in Scala, which is the primary language for this role.
  • Expert-level experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing at scale.
  • Strong system design and architecture skills with the ability to reason about trade-offs and communicate decisions clearly.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL pipelines and data infrastructure in production environments.
  • Comfort working with high-throughput, high-volume systems, including TB-scale data processing.
  • Familiarity with strongly typed and functional programming principles.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and elevating team technical quality.
  • Proficiency with version control tools, particularly Git.
  • Experience with a variety of data formats, including structured and unstructured data, flat files, XML, JSON, relational data, and Parquet, is preferred.
  • Experience in the cybersecurity domain or with security-adjacent data products is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a Staff or Principal IC role with cross-team technical influence is preferred.
  • Candidates must be based in Canada (Eastern time zone preferred) or LATAM.
  • The role does not offer immigration sponsorship.

  • Estimated total compensation range of $80,000 - $94,000, including base pay plus bonus.
  • Eligibility for annual performance-based incentive compensation awards.
