Description

  • Manage a small product team of 3-5 engineers across backend and frontend.
  • Spend about 30% of the time on management work while actively participating in product development.
  • Lead hiring processes for the team and support hiring efforts for peer teams when needed.
  • Own the onboarding process for new engineers.
  • Manage team dynamics and act as the spokesperson for the team.
  • Give continuous, constructive feedback and coaching to direct reports.
  • Support each direct report’s career growth and help the team develop as a group.
  • Redesign engineering delivery to use autonomous agents as the default execution layer.
  • Define and operationalize agentic workflows from specification through planning, execution, and verification.
  • Build reusable agentic workflows and use tests, checks, evals, and guardrails to ensure quality, security, reliability, and scalability.

Requirements

  • Managed an engineering team of at least 2 people.
  • Extensive backend experience with Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic or automation workflows, or comparable systems, and improving them through iteration.
  • Ability to think in systems, including writing clear specs, breaking down plans, instrumenting verification, and closing the quality loop.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering and development principles and best practices.
  • Proven organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • A kind, people-first approach focused on efficient processes.
  • Ability to inspire others, instill confidence, and understand team dynamics.
  • Ambitious and intentional commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion.
  • Strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.
  • Experience in a fully remote, asynchronous environment is implied by the role context.
  • Prior leadership experience in a software engineering environment is preferred.
