Description

  • Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot in a cloud-based environment.
  • Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices that support high-volume notification and communication workflows.
  • Work within and help improve a large Java EE legacy codebase as part of modernization efforts.
  • Improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability across distributed services.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers using React and NestJS to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Support secure software delivery practices aligned with VA DevSecOps and federal compliance standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Write technical documentation and communicate across engineering teams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Java as a primary language.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice architecture.
  • Experience working with or modernizing Java EE legacy systems.
  • Experience working in AWS cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and NestJS is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools is a plus.
  • Understanding of federal security and compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Certain roles may require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation and/or security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
