Description

  • Architect and implement AI-enabled application systems on Google Cloud Platform using agentic workflows.
  • Design human-in-the-loop agentic systems with clear agent roles, orchestration patterns, tool use, and guardrails.
  • Integrate Vertex AI, Gemini APIs, embeddings, and RAG capabilities into Java and Python applications through APIs and microservices.
  • Lead application-layer decisions for data flow, context management, session handling, and state management.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Cloud Architects to ensure solutions are built on reliable, governed data.
  • Conduct architectural reviews, define coding standards, and mentor engineers on agentic design patterns.
  • Evaluate AI use cases for feasibility, risk, and mission fit, and prototype approaches before full implementation.
  • Support responsible AI practices including explainability, human oversight, auditability, and federal governance alignment.
  • Stay current on the Google AI ecosystem and advise leadership on strategic direction.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of software or application engineering experience with a focus on AI-integrated or intelligent application design.
  • Hands-on experience with Google ADK or comparable agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, or AutoGen; Google ADK strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python for AI/ML integration; Java experience is a plus.
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs such as Gemini, OpenAI, or equivalent into production workflows.
  • Solid understanding of agentic design patterns, including tool use, multi-agent orchestration, RAG, memory, and context management.
  • Experience with GCP services including Vertex AI, Cloud Run, GKE, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub.
  • Familiarity with REST API design, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines; Harness is preferred.
  • Understanding of responsible AI principles, including human-in-the-loop design, auditability, bias awareness, and federal AI governance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Machine Learning Engineer certification is preferred; Security+ is desirable.
  • Experience with Vertex AI Agent Builder, Gemini Code Assist, or Gemini CLI in a development workflow is preferred.
  • Familiarity with BigQuery, Dataform, and Looker is preferred.
  • Experience on federal or large-scale enterprise modernization programs is preferred.
  • Exposure to FedRAMP/FISMA requirements and security-compliant AI deployment practices is preferred.
  • Experience with DevSecOps pipelines and SAST/DAST tools such as Checkmarx or Invicti is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a client-required background investigation and suitability determination is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance may be required.
  • Remote work is available, with preference for candidates located in Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, DC.
