Description

  • Work collaboratively on an agile team to ship software incrementally with frequent customer feedback.
  • Design, develop, and deploy Java/Kotlin backend services for high-volume telemetry and alerting workloads.
  • Build and improve systems that ingest, persist, and retrieve signal data for the alerting platform.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers across streaming, infrastructure, design, UI, and APIs.
  • Implement new alerting features across the pipeline while reducing tech debt and retiring legacy architecture.
  • Advocate for architecture improvements and clearly communicate tradeoffs and future direction.
  • Deploy code to customers multiple times per day.
  • Share responsibility for the reliability and security of the team’s software.
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and contribute to peer reviews and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate early with frontend partners and submit low-friction pull requests to other teams’ codebases.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience, preferably in a SaaS or product-based environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin, with solid knowledge of OOP principles, RESTful APIs, and multithreaded programming.
  • Experience building multithreaded Java services and shipping reliable high-throughput production services.
  • Experience with relational databases, including complex SQL, optimization, pagination, partitioning, and scaling.
  • Experience working with distributed systems and writing code and queries that perform at scale.
  • Experience delivering APIs consumed by internal and/or external customers.
  • Demonstrated empathy for the end user and customer-facing impact of backend decisions.
  • Experience working in an agile environment characterized by rapid change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to seek consensus, lead by example, and show persistence and tenacity.
  • Bonus: hands-on experience with LLMs, AI agents, prompt design, LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented workflows, model evaluation, or MCP servers.
  • Bonus: familiarity with Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, AMQP/RabbitMQ, or gRPC.
  • Bonus: familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
  • Bonus: cloud computing experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Bonus: frontend awareness with React, TypeScript, GraphQL, or CSS.
