Description

  • Contribute to large projects that evolve Elasticsearch core infrastructure.
  • Develop automation and integrate agentic apps to improve developer productivity.
  • Design and implement horizontally scalable features and APIs.
  • Investigate and resolve performance, concurrency, and stability issues.
  • Improve the operation and observability of Elasticsearch cloud systems.
  • Collaborate openly with the ES team, Elastic users, and other open source projects.
  • Support support engineers on complex technical problems.
  • Own operational investigations end to end until issues are resolved.
  • Lead and contribute to cross-team projects.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with core Java, including standard data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
  • Hands-on experience with low-level Java concepts such as concurrency, parallelism, and classloaders.
  • Experience crafting APIs and reasoning through technical tradeoffs.
  • Proficiency in algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems and practices such as Buildkite, Argo CD, and GitOps.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects across engineering teams.
  • Ability to own projects from technical design through delivery.
  • Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and work autonomously in a distributed team.
  • Preferred: knowledge of JDK internals, OpenTelemetry, Go, containers, Kubernetes, and Java build tools such as Gradle or Maven, with strong preference for Gradle.
  • Preferred: experience working in a platform team or developer productivity team.

  • Base salary range of $128,300 to $203,000 CAD.
