Description

  • Own production support for bioinformatics and data science algorithms and ensure responses are accurate and timely.
  • Lead complex cross-system investigations to distinguish biological, algorithmic, data, and infrastructure issues.
  • Resolve inconclusive reports by determining root cause and driving upstream process changes to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain a catalogue of known patterns to match new cases to prior settled issues.
  • Own process validation for pipelines and algorithms as production workflows change.
  • Define and enforce evidence standards before changes are released into active workflows.
  • Lead, hire, and develop a team of Data and Bioinformatics Scientists.
  • Partner with Production Engineering, Product, Bio Development, laboratory operations, and R&D to resolve issues and prevent recurring escalations.
  • Define the team’s support commitments, turnaround expectations, coverage model, and staffing approach.
  • Set standards for AI-assisted investigation, including what can be concluded automatically versus what must be manually reproduced and reviewed.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work-based depth.
  • 5+ years working with genomic or sequencing data.
  • 2+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience owning a support, escalation, or on-call function with formal commitments.
  • Experience leading investigations across multiple system boundaries to resolution.
  • Ability to build alignment across organizations without authority.
  • Strong sequencing and bioinformatics fluency.
  • Proficiency with Python and SQL for investigation and analysis.
  • Experience with change control, validation, and documentation practices.
  • Familiarity with workflow systems such as WDL, Nextflow, Snakemake, or Cromwell (preferred).
  • Machine learning or statistical analysis experience applied to genomic data (preferred).
  • Experience with cfDNA, prenatal, or carrier screening applications (preferred).
