Description

  • Provide operational and strategic leadership for assigned laboratory products in collaboration with senior lab leadership and other laboratory leaders.
  • Generate and deliver executive-level production and departmental summaries.
  • Monitor workflow to ensure production goals, turnaround times, service-level agreements, and deadlines are met.
  • Plan for future demand and scale employees and equipment appropriately.
  • Track production metrics including efficiency, scrap waste, error rates, and quality control/assurance results.
  • Use operational data to drive decision-making, cost reduction, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Manage staffing levels, including interviewing, PTO, and overtime, to support production goals.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to refine laboratory processes.
  • Oversee day-to-day lab operations and serve as the primary operational and process knowledge resource when senior leadership is unavailable.
  • Ensure smooth introduction of automation and test improvements into production workflows.
  • Investigate lab processing errors and recommend corrective actions to lab leadership and technical stakeholders.
  • Support supervisors with NCR closeout and initiate and close CAPAs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with regulatory requirements, good manufacturing practices, and CLIA/CAP guidelines.
  • Ensure testing is completed according to approved procedures and maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including OPS, Accessioning, Engineering, Stats, R&D, and Support.
  • Address employee issues and partner with Senior Manager and Human Resources to resolve concerns.
  • Conduct regular meetings, skip-levels, and performance reviews, and develop employees through training, cross-training, and new challenges.
  • Recognize and reward talent through merit reviews, promotions, and recognition programs.
  • Manage training for direct reports and identify needs for tools, supplies, and other resources.
  • Recommend policy changes and establish procedures within the scope of company policies.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in Biological Sciences, a related field, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of relevant leadership experience and/or team management preferred.
  • 5+ years of industry-related experience preferred.
  • Current ASCP board certification in Medical Technology or California State CLS or CGMBS license is required.
  • Exceptional multitasking, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams at all levels.
  • Experience building and managing a high-performing, engaged team.
  • Experience working on a laboratory operations floor.
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean Six Sigma concepts and tools.
  • Manufacturing or engineering experience preferred.
