Description

  • Define the long-term technical vision and platform investment strategy for MongoDB Search, including vector, hybrid, and AI-native applications.
  • Represent customers building mission-critical AI applications and identify scalability, consistency, performance, and multi-tenancy needs.
  • Partner with engineering leadership to translate technical tradeoffs into business value while balancing innovation with production stability.
  • Collaborate with SRE and Solutions Architects to develop observability, instrumentation, alerting, and reliability improvement strategies.
  • Conduct architectural audits and identify operational toil, observability gaps, and immediate reliability improvements.
  • Partner with SRE to establish SLOs and SLIs and promote error-budget-based operational practices.
  • Synthesize customer and production insights into strategic whitepapers and forward-looking infrastructure investments.
  • Guide major infrastructure capabilities, such as vector indexes or sharding mechanisms, from concept through general availability.
  • Track improvements in latency, MTTR, capacity reliability, and other system health metrics.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product management experience focused on infrastructure or distributed systems.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed-systems concepts, including the CAP theorem, consistency models, replication, consensus algorithms, and sharding strategies.
  • Experience driving operational excellence and understanding engineering workflows such as on-call operations and production incident debugging.
  • Ability to connect low-level system metrics and architecture decisions to business outcomes through clear executive communication.
  • Ability to influence senior engineers and architectural decisions without formal authority.
  • Strong customer orientation and experience designing technical platform products for long-term customer success.
  • Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, or Lucene, preferably in production at scale.
  • Experience with vector databases or AI/ML infrastructure, including vector search, embeddings management, or hybrid retrieval systems, preferred.
