Description

Design, build, and maintain Java and Spring Boot APIs and backend services for transmission planning.
Process, validate, and orchestrate large volumes of grid and planning data across systems.
Implement service security, authentication, and access controls.
Own CI/CD pipelines, environments, deployments, logging, and metrics.
Partner directly with electrical engineers to translate grid-planning needs into technical requirements.
Evaluate problems independently, present options and recommendations, and communicate delivery trade-offs.
Use, review, and test AI-assisted development output before release.
Mentor teammates and share domain knowledge across the team.
Coordinate dependencies with engineers working across parallel workstreams.

Requirements

6+ years of experience building backend systems and APIs; Java and Spring Boot are strongly preferred.
Strong REST API design experience, including OpenAPI, Swagger, and Postman.
Experience with API security, authentication, and authorization, such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and role-based access control.
Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle and data-heavy workloads.
DevOps experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, cloud platforms, logging, and metrics.
Experience with Git, Bitbucket, agile development, continuous integration, and deployment.
Ability to learn unfamiliar languages, codebases, and complex domains quickly.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including working directly with client subject-matter experts.
Experience leading workstreams and mentoring engineers.
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and validating their output.
Experience in energy or utilities, power systems, Python, React/TypeScript, or Docker/Kubernetes is preferred.
Willingness to travel for team and client meetings up to 15%.

Colorado salary range of $145,000–$175,000 annually; New York City range of $160,000–$195,000 annually.
