Description

  • Perform remote DBA work for customers around the world.
  • Automate recurring DBA tasks and related operational workflows.
  • Set up database monitoring and other server-side activities for customer systems.
  • Run periodic health checks and produce reports on customer environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues when systems break or degrade.
  • Recommend and help implement performance, durability, and architecture improvements.
  • Perform database upgrades, backup configuration and monitoring, and recovery assistance.
  • Help build tools, enhancements, and best practices for the Remote DBA team.
  • Participate in community outreach through blogging and social media.
  • Provide on-call coverage and manage customers across cloud environments as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and related tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization.
  • Knowledge of database design, administration, development, or architecture.
  • Understanding of high availability environments and technologies.
  • Very strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer communication and follow-up skills.
  • Comfortable working remotely; equipment is provided.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Experience with columnar database platforms (preferred).
  • Prior use of database proxying technology (preferred).
  • Experience in a 24x7 support environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency with backup utilities such as mydumper, MariaDB Backup, Xtrabackup, or mysqldump (preferred).
  • Prior support engineer experience with MariaDB, Percona, or MySQL (preferred).
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Go (preferred).
  • Sysadmin experience with Linux, Windows, or similar systems (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of other database systems such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, RDS/Aurora, or MongoDB (preferred).
  • Experience with open source software contributions in the MariaDB/MySQL ecosystem (preferred).
  • Experience with MariaDB products such as MaxScale, ColumnStore, Cluster/Galera, or Clustrix (preferred).
  • Experience with virtualization software such as Xen, VirtualBox, or VMware (preferred).
  • Experience with cloud offerings, automation toolsets, containers, and monitoring software (preferred).
  • MariaDB and/or MySQL certifications (preferred).
  • Ability to provide coverage on a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule preferred.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for company-related meetings.
