Description

  • Own and scale a high-throughput search platform handling 1.5B+ monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings.
  • Drive the architecture and performance of search systems across Kafka and Elasticsearch, with an emphasis on latency, relevance, and reliability.
  • Build and evolve the core home discovery experience across web and mobile.
  • Improve engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows through fast and responsive product experiences.
  • Own and extend a centralized notifications platform delivering tens of millions of emails and SMS messages each month.
  • Ensure high deliverability, reliability, and extensibility of notification systems for internal product teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows.
  • Shape platform architecture and raise the technical bar for an AI-augmented engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful time in senior or staff-level roles.
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
  • Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments, with AWS preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems such as Kafka and SQS, and distributed databases including PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Elasticsearch.
  • Proven track record of leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.
  • Expert-level understanding of software design principles and multi-tenant platform architectures.
  • Uses Claude Code or similar AI tools as a core part of the development workflow.
  • Strong opinions, loosely held, about how AI changes software architecture, team structure, and engineering culture.
  • Clear and direct communication skills for working with product, design, and executive stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in a fast-growing, ambiguous environment where ownership and priorities evolve quickly.
