Description

  • Lead the Security Privacy team and own the technical direction for privacy tooling and related product strategy.
  • Design, build, and evolve backend and frontend systems that catalog PII, classify datasets, and enforce data protection standards.
  • Develop distributed systems that scan HubSpot's codebase and infrastructure to detect PII usage and track dataset ownership.
  • Orchestrate GDPR deletion workflows and other privacy-related actions across the platform.
  • Own reliability, on-call health, alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement for team-run services.
  • Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, Security, product, and infrastructure teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, pairing, feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Review code and changes while spending substantial time hands-on writing software and designing systems.
  • Shape the roadmap for how HubSpot manages and protects personal data at scale.
  • Help build an inclusive, high-trust team culture and grow the engineers around you.

Requirements

  • Senior backend engineering experience with prior leadership of small teams, projects, or technical areas.
  • Comfort designing and operating distributed systems such as microservices, message queues, and data pipelines in production.
  • Strong experience with at least one JVM language, ideally Java.
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL.
  • Experience with Kafka, asynchronous processing, or large-scale data systems is a plus.
  • Experience participating in or running on-call rotations.
  • Strong focus on reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working closely with product, design, security, or compliance partners.
  • Experience or interest in security, compliance, risk, or privacy domains such as SOX, ISO 27001, SOC reports, or data protection (nice to have).
  • Background building data or reporting platforms that integrate with third-party systems and internal data warehouses (nice to have).
  • Experience with auditors, risk, GRC teams, or systems that support audits and regulatory requirements (nice to have).
