Description

  • Own a product area or set of backend services end-to-end with clear accountability for outcomes.
  • Lead the design and implementation of complex backend systems across multiple services.
  • Define backend architecture, including API contracts, data models, and integration patterns.
  • Set development standards and govern release and rollout strategies such as feature flags, phased rollouts, and canary deployments.
  • Balance product roadmap priorities with technical roadmap needs to maintain stability and scalability.
  • Ensure backend services meet reliability, performance, observability, and security targets.
  • Mentor, coach, and manage backend engineers to improve delivery discipline, productivity, and team growth.
  • Review code, refactor services, and optimize backend systems for maintainability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Delivery Managers, PMs, frontend, QA, platform, and SRE teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Maintain on-call readiness, runbooks, and operational excellence for owned services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8–10 years of backend engineering experience, including leading complex projects or acting as a de-facto technical lead.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or team lead role.
  • Proven experience owning backend services or product areas end-to-end in a production SaaS environment.
  • Strong expertise in Python and/or Ruby on Rails.
  • Deep understanding of system design, domain-driven design (DDD), event-driven architectures, and data modeling at scale.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and Redis.
  • Hands-on experience designing for scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
  • Experience defining and managing API contracts and service integration patterns.
  • Familiarity with release strategies such as feature flags, canary deployments, and phased rollouts.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
  • People leadership experience with responsibility for delivery, mentoring, and team development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and delivery functions.
