Description

  • Own company-wide layout procedures, accuracy standards, tolerances, deliverables, and documentation.
  • Establish control network, benchmark, verification, and QA/QC standards.
  • Lead, schedule, train, and develop distributed layout technicians and engineers.
  • Forecast labor demand, staff projects, and resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Personally oversee complex layouts involving equipment, embeds, structural steel, utilities, and piping.
  • Manage model-based layout using robotic total stations, GNSS/GPS rovers, and digital levels.
  • Direct 3D laser scanning, scan-to-BIM deliverables, as-built verification, and deviation reporting.
  • Coordinate BIM/VDC models, coordinate systems, datums, layout points, and field-verified updates.
  • Manage equipment selection, procurement, calibration, software platforms, licensing, and vendors.
  • Ensure site safety, OSHA and client compliance, and documentation supporting certification and closeout.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of construction layout, field engineering, or construction surveying experience, including 3+ years leading layout personnel.
  • Expert operation of robotic total stations and GNSS/GPS equipment in active construction environments.
  • Experience establishing, adjusting, and maintaining construction control networks, coordinate systems, and datums.
  • Hands-on 3D model-based layout and BIM/VDC coordination experience.
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning, registration, point-cloud QA, scan-to-BIM, and as-built comparison.
  • Experience with industrial retrofit projects in live facilities and unreliable existing conditions.
  • Experience managing distributed field personnel across multiple sites or states.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, power distribution, structural work, and process piping.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable MVR, and ability to pass client background, drug, and safety screening.
  • Ability to travel 60–75% and work in active industrial environments while using full PPE; degree or equivalent experience required. Preferred: PMP/CCM, mission-critical experience, Trimble/Leica/Topcon/FARO certification, GPR, enterprise construction technology, or OSHA 30/NFPA 70E credentials.
