Description

  • Design and build the reusable on-device inference framework, including runtime, model integration, sampling, and preprocessing pipelines.
  • Own the on-device ML platform end to end, from architecture and implementation through field debugging and production support.
  • Integrate inference into resource-constrained RTOS firmware without compromising stability, scheduling, or power consumption.
  • Own low-level embedded plumbing, including drivers, DMA data paths, SPI/I²C interfaces, and middleware.
  • Debug issues on real hardware using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG, and drive root-cause analysis across firmware and hardware boundaries.
  • Carry regular firmware work such as features, bug fixes, field issues, and on-call or triage when ML demand is light.
  • Develop and ship models on device, including quantization, operator support, and latency/memory tradeoff decisions.
  • Optimize inference for tight power, memory, and latency constraints while balancing accuracy and footprint.
  • Drive alignment across firmware, app/cloud, data science, hardware, and operations on how on-device intelligence is built.
  • Raise the team’s embedded ML and AI-native fluency through code review, design docs, and pairing.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of firmware engineering experience taking complex consumer hardware from prototype through mass production.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Deep C/C++ experience for embedded systems and strong RTOS fluency with Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or equivalent.
  • Strong low-level hardware knowledge, including SPI, I²C, UART, DMA, interrupts, and driver development from the datasheet up.
  • Hands-on debugging experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying ML models on microcontroller-class hardware in a shipping product.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded inference frameworks such as TFLite Micro, CMSIS-NN, ExecuTorch, or equivalent.
  • Experience with model optimization techniques such as quantization and pruning.
  • Ability to develop and train models yourself, not only deploy models built by others.
  • Solid grounding in sensor data and signal-processing pipelines such as IMU data.
  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or equivalent as a development partner.
  • Strong written communication and documentation habits across firmware, hardware, and data science teams.
  • Nice to have: security and compliance experience for connected devices, including secure boot, key provisioning, signed and rollback-safe OTA, and FCC/CE certification.
  • Nice to have: hands-on experience with cellular, BLE, GPS/GNSS, or audio subsystems on battery-powered wearables or trackers.
  • Nice to have: new-board bring-up experience on unproven hardware.
  • Nice to have: hardware schematic evaluation and design review experience.
  • Nice to have: factory and manufacturing support experience, including test development and production-line debug.
