Description

  • Design, build, and operate streaming services on Kafka, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud Stream.
  • Develop and manage Kafka connectors and source/sink integrations for systems such as DynamoDB, S3, NSQ, and custom services.
  • Own schema management and evolution across Protobuf, Schema Registry, and multi-language code generation.
  • Drive platform migrations such as MSK to Confluent Cloud and NSQ to Kafka, including cutover planning and dual-cluster patterns.
  • Build monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling using DataDog, PagerDuty, Prometheus, and related systems.
  • Write infrastructure as code in Terraform and ship changes through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response for owned services.
  • Work AI-natively by directing multiple agents, reviewing outputs, and evolving team AI practices and guardrails.
  • Mentor teammates and contribute to API design, data contracts, and integration patterns.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of backend software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Production experience with Apache Kafka or a comparable distributed streaming platform such as Pulsar, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consistency, fault tolerance, replication, delivery semantics, and durability tradeoffs.
  • Experience with AWS or equivalent cloud platforms and containerized deployments on Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tools in multi-environment infrastructure.
  • Strong prompting skills and experience working effectively with AI agents in a technical workflow.
  • Ability to critically validate AI-generated output and troubleshoot when agent output is incorrect or incomplete.
  • Technical depth in areas such as Kafka internals, Protobuf wire format, JDBC, SASL_SSL auth, and partitioning semantics.
  • Nice to have: Go experience for CLI tools or services.
  • Nice to have: gRPC and Protocol Buffers production experience, including schema evolution.
  • Nice to have: Stream processing frameworks such as Kafka Streams or Flink.
  • Nice to have: Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud experience, including Schema Registry, Connect, ksqlDB, or Stream Governance.
  • Nice to have: CI/CD with GitHub Actions and artifact management with Maven or Nexus.
  • Nice to have: Observability tooling such as DataDog, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Nice to have: Experience with large-scale platform migrations or infrastructure modernization.
  • Nice to have: Experience building or running evals for LLM workflows, prompt libraries, or agent tooling.
