Description

  • Own database performance tuning and optimization across high-scale, multi-tenant Aurora/MySQL environments.
  • Triage and resolve slow queries by rewriting inefficient SQL, designing composite indexes, and eliminating full-table scans.
  • Manage and support 400+ database schemas, including schema migrations and monitoring client-specific data growth.
  • Configure and troubleshoot AWS Aurora environments, including cluster routing, failover behavior, parameter tuning, and read-replica lag.
  • Tune MySQL/InnoDB internals to address lock contention, buffer pool settings, transaction behavior, and purge lag.
  • Diagnose and optimize ETL and data pipeline workloads that use INSERT...SELECT, temporary tables, batching, and partition pruning.
  • Build observability and alerting workflows using performance_schema, sys schema, Datadog, and related telemetry.
  • Analyze Aurora usage and cost patterns to right-size resources and reduce unnecessary I/O consumption.
  • Mentor and guide engineers on query design, staging tables, computed views, and database best practices.
  • Evaluate and implement GenAI-assisted tools to improve DBA diagnostics, profiling, and fleet management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical enterprise experience.
  • Extensive experience administering AWS relational databases, especially AWS Aurora architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of Aurora read replica scaling, cluster topologies, and database parameters.
  • Experience scripting automation for schema drift detection, slow-query alerts, or automated indexing recommendations.
  • Deep professional mastery of MySQL/InnoDB internals, including buffer pool configuration, transaction isolation, lock mechanics, and MVCC.
  • Demonstrated expertise in database performance profiling, query rewrites, and advanced indexing strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to explain complex database concepts to software engineers.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on cross-product impact and operate in a highly technical, hands-on infrastructure role.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, and/or Google BigQuery is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Datadog, GenAI/LLM-assisted analysis tools, or healthcare data standards and EHR integrations such as Epic or Cerner is preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Remote candidates must be located in one of the listed U.S. states.
