Description

  • Define the technical strategy and architectural roadmap for Klaviyo’s backend and developer infrastructure.
  • Own the health, architecture, and dependency management of the Klaviyo codebase, with a focus on backend systems.
  • Lead analysis and optimization of backend and third-party dependencies for security, performance, reliability, and risk management.
  • Oversee planning and rollout of major software releases, updates, and platform upgrades through production deployment.
  • Drive improvements in developer productivity metrics such as PR CI speed, code review pickup time, and commit velocity.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex performance, scalability, and reliability issues across the platform.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and telemetry to detect and prevent incidents.
  • Mentor experienced engineers and help strengthen technical skills across the team.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product, security, hardware, and other stakeholders to align requirements and resolve conflicts.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and practices to improve systems and internal processes.

Requirements

  • 12 years of experience in software development.
  • Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals and domain-driven design.
  • Extensive expertise in architectural patterns, especially in distributed systems.
  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep experience with programming languages such as Go or Python.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to product and platform vision and long-term technical strategy.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience experimenting with AI in work or personal projects and enthusiasm for learning responsible AI workflows.
  • Nice to have experience with Pants, FastAPI, Django, React, Terraform, or Buildkite.
  • Nice to have background in performance optimization.
  • Nice to have familiarity with complex test data management, including large datasets and production-like data replication.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $216,000 to $324,000 USD.
  • Eligibility for the company’s annual cash bonus plan.
  • Equity and sign-on payments may be included in total compensation.
