Description

  • Design and evolve self-service connectivity abstractions for scoped segmentation, governed exposure, adaptive ingress/egress, and traceable traffic.
  • Own service identity and trust, including mTLS, certificate automation, least-privilege east-west communication, and governed egress.
  • Engineer resilient traffic paths with timeouts, retries, circuit breaking, and failure isolation, and improve them through chaos testing and automated remediation.
  • Establish observability standards that make request paths, applied policies, outcomes, saturation, and cost visible across environments.
  • Create approachable documentation and diagnostics to reduce support loops and help teams troubleshoot connectivity issues.
  • Optimize performance and cost across latency, cross-AZ transfer, IP consumption, and load balancer efficiency.
  • Apply threat and abuse modeling to connectivity surfaces while keeping solutions developer-friendly.
  • Manage lifecycle and adoption work including versioning, safe migrations, deprecations, usage telemetry, and cleanup of unused resources.
  • Mentor engineers and partner with adjacent DevX teams to embed networking abstractions into golden paths.
  • Own, operate, and maintain network-related infrastructure within and adjacent to EKS.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience building and operating distributed or platform systems with production Kubernetes/EKS ownership.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Go, TypeScript, Python, or Java.
  • Strong understanding of cloud and Kubernetes networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, east-west segmentation, service exposure, DNS/CoreDNS, policy enforcement, and CNI behavior.
  • Practical knowledge of service trust and identity, including mTLS, certificate automation and rotation, PKI/CA, or SPIFFE/SPIRE concepts.
  • Working understanding of traffic resilience and performance, including timeouts, retries, backoff, circuit breaking, rate limiting, failure isolation, latency, and saturation analysis.
  • Experience with developer connectivity abstractions such as K8s CRDs/operators, guardrails, simulation, and automated tests.
  • Competence with observability and SLOs, including metrics, tracing, structured logs, L4/L7 telemetry, and SLI/SLO definition and enforcement.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and delivery tools such as Terraform, CDK, GitOps tools like Argo or Flux, progressive or canary rollouts, and policy-as-code integration.
  • Operational experience with chaos or fault injection, component upgrades, and incident response.
  • Ability to communicate and mentor across different levels of networking and identity fluency.
  • Working knowledge of eBPF, Cilium Hubble, or Envoy extensions is a plus.
  • Exposure to Gateway API, service mesh technologies such as Istio, Linkerd, or ambient mesh, multi-region failover, or IPv6/dual-stack planning is a plus.
  • Comfort with advanced DNS/discovery, policy engines such as Kyverno or OPA, and API inventory or cost attribution metadata is a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license.

  • Base salary range of $165,000 to $215,000, plus equity in the company.
