Description

  • Drive end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-quarter design initiatives across Design, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Legal, and Business Development.
  • Build and deploy AI-enabled workflows to automate status reporting, resource tracking, documentation synthesis, and stakeholder communications.
  • Own operations and vendor management for design tooling, including contracts, licensing optimization, compliance, and contractor or agency engagements.
  • Establish scalable systems for capacity planning, resource allocation, and roadmapping across tools and teams.
  • Implement metrics and integrations that improve workflow visibility and coordination across the organization.
  • Partner with the Instacart Design System team to align programs with system evolution and component adoption.
  • Lead governance programs that scale design system usage across product teams.
  • Translate leadership vision into operating models, planning cycles, and milestone reviews.
  • Create visibility into program outcomes and enable cross-functional alignment at scale.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in program management or design operations within design and/or product organizations.
  • Hands-on experience with design systems concepts, including component libraries, tokens, documentation, and cross-platform patterns.
  • Technical fluency working with design systems and engineering teams, including system architecture, component APIs, design-to-code workflows, and technical constraints.
  • Proven experience building and scaling operational systems in fast-paced environments, including launching programs from 0 to 1.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency using LLMs and/or automation platforms to streamline workflows.
  • Vendor and contract management experience, including negotiating software contracts, optimizing licensing and spend, and ensuring compliance with Finance, Legal, and IT.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Figma, Linear or Jira, asset management tools, research repositories, and prototyping tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Design, HCI, Engineering, or Business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred: Experience building or scaling a design system and driving component adoption across multiple product teams.
  • Preferred: Experience implementing AI-powered workflows or integrations for creative operations or design tooling ecosystems.
  • Preferred: Success translating leadership vision into operating models, measurable roadmaps, and governance programs.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting organizations with 90+ cross-functional partners across Design and Engineering.
  • Preferred: Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution in dynamic, ambiguous environments.
  • Preferred: Strong use of data and storytelling to influence decisions and secure investment in operational improvements.

  • Highly market-competitive compensation.
  • Base salary range of $167,000-$176,000 USD for CA, NY, CT, and NJ.
  • Base salary range of $153,000-$161,500 USD for WA.
  • Base salary range of $159,000-$168,000 USD for listed states including OR, MA, MD, CO, TX, IL, and others.
  • Base salary range of $139,000-$146,500 USD for all other states.
  • Eligible for a new hire equity grant.
  • Eligible for annual refresh grants.
