Description

  • Author FACS shapes and photorealistic blendshape-based facial rigs for human and non-human characters.
  • Develop rigging systems that augment blendshape facial rigs and provide animator- and mocap-friendly interfaces.
  • Collaborate with Character Art, Animation, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality, optimized assets for in-engine use.
  • Process and clean 3D and 4D scan data from FACS sessions.
  • Develop tools and workflows for runtime optimization, third-party facial-rig ingestion, and facial-rig authoring and editing.
  • Implement facial shape-transfer techniques and related pipelines.
  • Keep current with advanced facial-rigging and performance-capture techniques for film and games.
  • Direct actors through FACS sessions and integrate facial assets from external vendors as needed.
  • Provide feedback to external vendors and mentor other technical directors on facial mechanics, rigging, sculpting, and solving techniques.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of FACS, facial anatomy, and facial skeletal and muscle anatomy.
  • Expert proficiency sculpting FACS shapes with deformers and/or sculpting tools.
  • Expert-level experience with Maya.
  • Experience with ZBrush, Mudbox, or comparable sculpting tools.
  • Experience processing scan data with Wrap3D or comparable software and with deformation-transfer workflows.
  • Experience with facial rigs for real-time applications such as Unity or Unreal Engine preferred.
  • Understanding of facial performance capture, solving, modern scanning, and 4D scanning techniques.
  • Ability to identify primary facial action units on sight and develop realistic, runtime-efficient solutions.
  • Experience with Python, PyQt, or PySide for facial-rig tools preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, knowledge-sharing, iteration, and refinement skills.
