Description

  • Advise the People team across hiring, performance management, terminations, reductions in force, accommodations, leaves, compensation, contingent workers, and sensitive employee matters.
  • Manage employment disputes, including pre-litigation claims, agency charges, settlement negotiations, and outside employment litigation counsel.
  • Oversee internal investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower claims, and policy violations.
  • Advise on federal, state, and local employment compliance for a multistate workforce, with emphasis on non-exempt employees.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment, severance, confidentiality, and equity-related documents.
  • Develop employment policies, handbooks, compliance procedures, and training for employees and business leaders.
  • Advise on employee, customer, product, and vendor data privacy and information security matters.
  • Support regulatory inquiries, non-employment litigation, ERISA and benefits matters, commercial contracting, and marketing review.
  • Use AI tools and workflows to improve legal research, drafting, analysis, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 8–10+ years of legal experience with deep employment counseling and disputes experience.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on non-exempt employee populations and California employment law.
  • Experience managing employment litigation and pre-litigation matters, including directing outside counsel.
  • At least one prior in-house legal role preferred; startup or high-growth technology experience is a plus.
  • Experience with equity and executive compensation.
  • Law firm background preferred, with the ability to provide practical, business-focused guidance.
  • Strong stakeholder management, judgment, autonomy, prioritization, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Daily, substantive use of AI tools for legal research, drafting, analysis, and workflow development.
  • Curiosity, process discipline, attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to learn adjacent areas of law.
