Description

  • Own the architecture and scaling strategy for core Phone platform components, including CPaaS abstractions, provider adapters, and shared messaging and voice APIs.
  • Own Phone Billing end to end, including usage metering, rating, reserve/commit lifecycle, idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails.
  • Lead the evolution of Trust & Compliance systems into a configuration-driven, rules-based platform that adapts to changing regulatory and carrier requirements.
  • Drive reliability, latency, and throughput improvements across high-concurrency APIs and workflows.
  • Improve observability, alerting, and incident response, including monitoring financial invariants as well as technical ones.
  • Partner with product, infrastructure, security, finance, and legal teams to ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance across phone services.
  • Develop engineering managers, senior engineers, and leadership pipelines, including succession planning and hiring.
  • Participate in design reviews, deep dives, and on-call rotations to support operational excellence.
  • Leverage LLMs and AI tools to write, refactor, test, and debug code with guardrails for reliability.
  • Set technical direction across multiple teams and establish the engineering system for the domain.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of backend engineering experience with 2+ years of leadership.
  • Proven experience designing fault-tolerant systems at scale, including billions of hits or events.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing.
  • Experience with correctness-critical systems such as metering, ledgers, billing, or payments, including idempotency, exactly-once semantics, and reconciliation.
  • Strong experience optimizing availability, performance, and reliability under load.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL data models, especially for complex transactional data.
  • Experience designing policy-driven or rules-driven systems that evolve with external requirements.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments.
  • Familiarity with hallucination mitigation strategies for AI-assisted development, such as code constraints, test scaffolding, embeddings, or context injection.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including with Finance, Legal, and external partners.
  • Experience with usage-based billing or metering engines handling millions of transactional events per hour (preferred).
  • Exposure to telecom trust and compliance regimes such as 10DLC, toll-free verification, TCPA/TSR, DLT, carrier filtering, or number portability (preferred).
  • Experience building provider-agnostic integration layers across multiple third-party vendors (preferred).
  • Experience with AI tools and communication APIs such as Twilio or Plivo (preferred).
  • Contributions to open-source tools, internal platforms, or engineering blogs (preferred).
