Description

  • Own, operate, and improve backend services, serverless applications, batch workloads, and ML inference endpoints in Azure.
  • Manage deployments, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, incident response, and operational runbooks across environments.
  • Design and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines, lakehouse infrastructure, data-quality checks, and freshness monitoring.
  • Build infrastructure-as-code and manage cloud resources, identity, secrets, storage, hosting, and cost optimization.
  • Develop tooling for ML and operations research experimentation, reproducibility, deployment, evaluation, and benchmarking.
  • Turn research prototypes into reliable production services, including model packaging, versioning, and deployment.
  • Establish engineering practices for code quality, testing, version control, code reviews, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with Data Science, Operations Research, Product, and Engineering on architecture and product integration decisions.
  • Build internal services, APIs, and developer tooling as platform needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, backend service design, and distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating production data pipelines end to end, including retries, idempotency, backfills, orchestration, and freshness monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating production services in Azure or another major cloud platform, with interest in Azure.
  • Experience with serverless and batch compute, object storage, identity and access management, and monitoring.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM.
  • Strong knowledge of Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Comfort reading, running, packaging, and deploying ML or OR code and model artifacts.
  • Experience owning live production systems and improving existing codebases over time.
  • Experience with Delta Lake, Parquet, lakehouse architectures, DuckDB, Polars, dbt, Azure ML, MLflow, DVC, orchestration tools, Kubernetes, or Azure governance is preferred.
  • Experience with DevOps/SRE, optimization, logistics, transportation, or large-scale ML systems is preferred.
