Description

  • Develop country internal audit strategies and support risk management throughout project design, implementation, and closure.
  • Lead sensitive and high-risk fraud investigations and establish escalation protocols.
  • Manage internal audit operations, metrics, project workbooks, spot checks, and risk reporting across assigned countries.
  • Coordinate with Country Directors, Safeguarding, Programs, Technology, telcos, and other external partners.
  • Manage, hire, develop, and evaluate Internal Audit Managers and support broader country audit teams.
  • Conduct annual field visits to each assigned country and monitor country operations.
  • Deliver fraud and safeguarding training and reinforce GiveDirectly’s ethical standards.
  • Prepare quarterly productivity reports, project retrospectives, and strategy recommendations for Internal Audit leadership.
  • Support technology- and AI-enabled fraud prevention initiatives, external audits, and broader internal audit improvements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years leading internal audit, compliance, or risk functions, including strategy and fieldwork.
  • Experience leading or overseeing sensitive, high-risk fraud investigations.
  • Direct people management experience, including hiring, performance reviews, and conflict management.
  • Experience managing audit or risk across multiple countries or regional units.
  • Field operations experience in low-resource, humanitarian, or development settings.
  • Experience collaborating with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Data and analytics experience using KPIs, metrics, and risk reporting to detect fraud trends.
  • Experience with project design, risk registers, and proposal development; NGO or cash-transfer experience preferred.
  • Strong senior-level report writing, including strategy documents, quarterly reports, and retrospectives.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese, with strong problem-solving, project management, communication, follow-through, emotional intelligence, and inclusivity skills.
  • Ability to work remotely from Goma, Bukavu, or Kinshasa, DRC, with at least three hours of overlap with an East Africa timezone.
  • Alignment with GiveDirectly’s values and safeguarding standards.
