Description

  • Diagnose business problems by mapping workflows, identifying constraints, and validating whether AI is the right solution before building.
  • Own AI initiatives end-to-end from stakeholder discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration.
  • Design, develop, and ship AI-powered solutions quickly, including working prototypes delivered in days rather than months.
  • Improve organizational flow by reducing bottlenecks, shortening lead times, increasing throughput, and measuring outcomes with flow metrics, adoption, and ROI.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and workflows using APIs, orchestration tools, and modern AI platforms where appropriate.
  • Use GitLab’s AI offerings as a customer and advocate, and feed real-world usage insights back to R&D.
  • Partner with stakeholders across functions to clarify constraints, align on outcomes, and bridge technical and non-technical perspectives.
  • Define and track success using business metrics, flow metrics, and feedback loops.
  • Evaluate tools, document patterns, and create reusable foundations that help the team scale its impact.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns.
  • Deep practical experience with modern AI technologies, including prompt engineering, context window management, multi-turn interaction design, and output evaluation.
  • Experience making model selection and architecture trade-offs, including when to use smaller fine-tuned models, RAG, or larger general-purpose models.
  • Practical fluency with agentic architecture patterns such as tool use, multi-agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop designs, guardrails, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and open-source alternatives.
  • Ability to design AI safety controls such as input validation, output filtering, access controls, prompt injection defenses, and data leakage prevention.
  • Ability to map complex end-to-end workflows, identify bottlenecks, and trace root causes before proposing solutions.
  • Familiarity with enterprise business systems such as Salesforce, Marketo, Zendesk, Workato, Relevance AI, and Glean, plus strong understanding of enterprise data models and workflows.
  • Track record of owning complex initiatives from discovery through delivery and operating effectively with ambiguity.
  • Ability to scope MVPs, prioritize ruthlessly, and deliver iteratively with attention to adoption, user experience, and business outcomes.
  • Preferred: experience with GitLab platform and CI/CD workflows.
  • Preferred: background in consulting, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical roles.
  • Preferred: familiarity with value stream mapping, flow metrics, or Theory of Constraints thinking.
  • Preferred: experience with low-code/no-code orchestration tools such as n8n, Make, or Workato alongside custom development.
  • Preferred: previous startup or high-growth company experience.
  • Preferred: experience mentoring or leading technical projects with junior engineers.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $139,200 to $218,400 USD for the listed U.S. level.
