Description

  • Shape and refine Flickr's engineering vision in partnership with the General Manager and align it with business and product strategy.
  • Lead engineering initiatives that improve platform reliability, product velocity, and technical excellence.
  • Identify and drive high-impact efforts to close technical gaps and strengthen Flickr's competitive position.
  • Partner with SmugMug engineering leadership to identify shared opportunities across the Awesome portfolio.
  • Stay close to the technology at the code and architecture level and help shape Flickr's technical culture.
  • Serve as a credible technical voice in executive discussions and translate engineering tradeoffs into business context.
  • Champion engineering craft, continuous learning, innovation, and ownership across the team.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and technical leaders.
  • Assess talent and skill gaps and align team development with organizational needs.
  • Oversee engineering financial operations, including budgets, expenses, and AWS/cloud infrastructure costs.
  • Own decision-making on major vendor and partner contracts.
  • Act as engineering business owner to the Executive Team on decisions with significant business and financial impact.

Requirements

  • Deep experience leading engineering organizations and developing strong leaders.
  • Strong technical depth with hands-on involvement at the code and architecture level.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into engineering execution with measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on familiarity with AWS at scale.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience owning budgets and making resource tradeoff decisions.
  • Executive presence and credibility to operate with a C-suite audience.
  • Experience building and scaling engineering teams in consumer-facing, global-scale product environments.
  • Thoughtful, objective approach to organizational design and team structuring.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Google Suite, Slack, and AWS.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
  • Must be physically located in an approved U.S. state and work from a company-approved remote location.
